GS1 - a hidden champion

In 1974, a barcode on a pack of chewing gum was scanned for the first time in a supermarket in the USA. This was the beginning of automated checkout - and the start of the success story of GS1, Global Standards One.

Even though we did not invent the barcode, GS1, together with the product identification number GTIN, has created a system with 24 standards that not only enables the global movement of goods, but is also unique in its worldwide use.

We will be a perfect match if our standards are relevant to your idea and your customers and therefore also to our community.

And now you're coming! 24 GS1 standards are available to you

GS1 standards uniquely identify products (GTIN), companies and locations (GLN), shipping units (SSCC/NVE), items (GIAI) and reusable transport packaging (GRAI) worldwide or define the formats for data carriers such as barcodes and RFID.

Did you know, for example, that the simple barcode (EAN 13) on packaging and products is reaching its information limit? That's why GS1 is working with the global community on its successor (2D code), one that can do more. The 2D code becomes particularly smart via the GS1 Digital Link.
